On Wednesday 16th October we are running a workshop for any F1, F2 and Y1 parents about the importance of movement and how it helps in brain development. This links to a project we are running in school where children are practicing simple specific movements that can help them with a range of skills from co-ordination to the ability to concentrate and focus.
We are running this project in conjunction with EVO (who provide our sports coaches) and Seb Kane who has been in to train our staff on the research behind the importance of early movement and child development. Children are practising specific movements in school every day in the morning and afternoon and you will also be able to access the same video support materials at home if you want to help your child in this way.
The workshop will give you a basic understanding of how early movement wires the brain and how this is not happening in the ways that it used to for a number of reasons but it has become a bigger issue since the pandemic and our increasing dependence on screen time.
The project will run in school for at least the next 2 years and we would love you to be an active part in helping your child at home. We are offering some incentives for families that engage with us in this project.
The workshop will be repeated on Wednesday 16th October at 9.00 - 10.00 am and 2.00 - 3.00 pm.
Hot drinks and pastries will be provided.
Please book your place by emailing sflanaghan@watercliffe.sheffield.sch.uk
If you are unable to attend either workshops but are interested in the project then please contact Sarah Flanaghan. We are hoping that the workshop will be recorded so you can also access it online.
We hope you can join us for this exciting event.
